23/10/2002 - Europe’s biggest screen opens for business today near Paris with a major film from Luc Besson

The biggest cinema screen in Europe is situated in the Mégarama Multiplex in the French town of Villeneuve-La-Garenne. The Horizon Amphitheatre is scheduled to open its doors to business and is the eighteenth screen of this complex that was opened in 1997 by Jean Pierre Lemoine. The Horizon has a seating capacity of one thousand and the screen is 27 meters long and 13 meters high. The first film to be screened in this magnificent cinema is a major French production entitled Le Transporteur written by Luc Besson who also produced the feature with his EuroeaCorp. Le Transporteur was directed by Louis Leterrier and Cory Yuen and will be released onto 500 French screens. The English-language film stars Britain’s Jason Stratham (Snatch) and Taiwan’s, Shu Qui (Millennium Mambo). The producers hope the film is as well received in France as it was in the United States where, following its release on 11 October on 2600 screens and took $9.1million during its first weekend out and climbed to 4 in the week’s top ten.
